A little sewing project

I’m getting ready to sew a dress for my daughter. Actually, this transpired because my local quilt shop (Country Sampler) has a cute project they do each spring. They put a small selection of fabrics in a brown paper bag, and tie a swatch of the main fabric on the outside as a clue to what the contents of the bag are. You then purchase the bag and are tasked with making a completed project using all the fabrics in the bag. You get a 1/2 yard of the main fabric and 4 fat quarters of coordinating fabrics. You don’t have to make a quilt — anything will do, as long as it’s finished by the deadline (May 4th this year). So I decided it would be fun to sew something for the little one.

The set I selected has got fun teals and greens in it, with polka dots, stripes, floral and paisley patterns represented in the fabrics. I picked up a couple of patterns at my local fabric store and plan on making a tiered ruffle shirt dress with matching hat and bottoms (you know, a diaper cover, essentially. What do you call those things?). The pattern is detailed enough for me to use all of the fabrics in a cute way without it being too forced, but simple enough that I think I can actually complete the project.

On a frugality note, the patterns were on sale for 99 cents each (I bought 3), and notions were on sale at 50% off (elastic, buttons, etc.). I’ll take a picture when I’m done.
